FRANKLIN, Wis. (CBS 58) — A Costco Wholesale store is finally coming to Milwaukee County.

Crews plan to break ground this week on a 20-acre parcel near 27th and Drexel in Franklin, where the 164,000-square-foot store is expected to open by November of this year.

"This is a great thing, it's a great opportunity," said City of Franklin Mayor John Nelson. "They picked this area. This was all them."

After about a year-and-a-half of planning alongside the city, Costco recently purchased the land from Northwestern Mutual.

"This helps our city spark our development and redevelopment, from 27th and Drexel south to Ryan, and 27th and Drexel north to Rawson," Mayor Nelson said. "There's different stretches that have great opportunities because of Costco."

The development is expected to bring more than 100 jobs to the area, with both full-time and part-time positions, offering full benefits. The store will also have a 12-pump gas station and 868 parking spaces.

"If you were to look at the New Berlin store and pick that up and put it here, it's going to look pretty much the same, except there will be more parking spots here," Nelson explained.

Costco's New Berlin store is the closest to the future site, located about 11 miles away.

Stores in Pleasant Prairie, Pewaukee, and Menomonee Falls are more than 25 miles away. One in Grafton and another future site planned for Oconomowoc are over 30 miles away.
