MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- As we look ahead to Groundhog Day, Milwaukee County has its own furry celebrity.
Gordy is getting ready for his big moment.
Last year, the little guy didn't see his shadow, which meant an early spring. But if Gordy sees his shadow this year, the tradition goes that we'll see six more weeks of winter.
Since Gordy's in hibernation, the zoo has to help coax him out of his den.
"Peanut butter, peanut butter granola bars and peanuts play a big role, because those are his high reward treats," said Jennifer Diliberti of the Milwaukee County Zoo. "So he's been getting those as he's been practicing, and he's coming out more and more during his practice sessions."
Gordy spends the months leading up to hibernation packing on weight. He spends the winter months sleeping.
Zoo visitors can guess Gordy's weight on Feb. 2. If you win, you'll get a groundhog-themed prize.
Groundhog Day activities start at 10:30 a.m.
