Milwaukee County Zoo Plans Behind the Scenes Weekend

Milwaukee County Zoo is offering a once-a-year opportunity for guests to see the inner workings of the zoo.

The event will take place March 11 through March 12.

These tours are free with general admission to the zoo.

Behind the Scenes Weekend is sponsored by Prairie Farms Dairy, and it will be the only time this year the public can tour areas normally reserved for staff.

Visitors can step inside the elk barn, visit with elephants and walk through the commissary. Another option is to walk through the train shop with your little conductor.
For visitors with a green thumb, they can take part in walking through the zoo’s greenhouses.

Other exhibits open to the public will include: aquatic and reptile center, aviary kitchen, giraffes' barn, small mammals' kitchen, and library.

If you are curious where warm-weather animals reside during the winter, there will be a tour of the winter quarters.

Tours are from 10 AM -2:30 PM both days, and pre-registration for tours is not required.
