Milwaukee County Board votes to fund external audit of county jail

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee County Board voted unanimously to adopt a resolution to fund an external audit of the county jail on Thursday, Jan. 1.
The audit was part of the county's 2024 budget.
It aims to recommend polices that will lead to fewer deaths in the facility.
Last year, two Milwaukee City leaders and activists pushed for the audit, after there were 4 inmate deaths in 2023.
The next steps involve finding a qualified third-party auditor and then get approval of the county board.
