Milwaukee County Board approves 2014 budget

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee County Board approved the 2014 budget by a 14-4 vote.

The board agrees with County Executive Chris Abele to freeze taxes at this year's rate, but there are a few things the board wants changed.

They want county workers to operate the Milwaukee County Transit System, while Abele wants to contract the work out.

Also, the board board voted to keep the popular Noyes and Pulaski swimming pools open, with a 50 cent admission fee.

In addition, the board wants to cut the pay of Abele's top aides and reduce his security budget from $400,000 to $100,000.

The budget now goes back to Abele for veto power and the board meets again on November 21 to battle those vetos.
