Milwaukee correctional officer accused in sexual assault of jail inmate

MILWAUKEE -- Officials are seeking charges against a male correctional officer accused of sexually assaulting a female inmate at the Milwaukee County Jail and trying to cover it up.

A spokesperson with the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the sheriff has asked prosecutors to charge the correctional officer with multiple counts-- including misconduct in public office and second-degree sexual assault.

The corrections officer is accused of raping a female inmate at the women's correctional facility in Milwaukee County.

The correctional officer has not been identified, pending charges, and is being held at the Waukesha County Jail.
