Milwaukee community thanks fan-favorite Bobby Portis ahead of Miami trade

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Bobby Portis, one of Milwaukee's all-time crowd favorites, is leaving with Giannis as part of the Bucks' trade with Miami.

His departure ends a six-year run with the Bucks -- a run that started the same year the team won the NBA championship.

Bucks fans fell in love with Portis' shooting and rebounding skills and his blue-collar, emotional style of play.

Portis embraced his popularity and became a presence in the community, helping organizations like Feeding America.

The organization shared a post on social media Tuesday, calling Portis a "champion for families facing hunger across Eastern Wisconsin," and thanking him for his dedication to the community.

"He's used his image, his sense of humor and his platform to really push out awareness of the needs to provide food for individuals facing food insecurity," said Cameron Wengrzyn, Feeding America.

Portis' departure from the Bucks is not a huge surprise, but losing both Giannis and Bobby at the same time is a tough blow for Bucks fans.
