Latest: $4M settlement for family of Sylville Smith approved

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee's Common Council is talking about a settlement that would pay $4 million to the family of Sylville Smith.

Smith was shot and killed by Milwaukee police four years ago. 

That shooting sparked several days of unrest in the Sherman Park neighborhood.

Milwaukee’s Judicial and Legislative Committee approved the settlement deal on Monday, October 26. Next, the city’s Finance and Personnel Committee will take up the $4 million settlement at its meeting on Wednesday, October 28.

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – The City of Milwaukee Common Council introduced a resolution on Friday, October 23 to pay $4 million in settlement to the family of Sylville Smith, who was shot and killed by a police officer in 2016.

The resolution was sent by the Common Council to the Finance and Personnel Committee.

The assistant city attorney asked the resolution be sent to the committee for review. It is on the agenda for the Finance and Personnel Committee meeting on Monday, Oct. 26.
