MILWAUKEE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced on Saturday that Milwaukee Bucks head coach Doc Rivers has been named to the Hall of Fame Class of 2026 as a coach.

The winningest active NBA head coach, Rivers holds a 1,192-863 (.580) coaching record and ranks sixth all-time for wins among NBA head coaches, after passing George Karl earlier this season.

“When I got the news that I will be inducted into the Hall of Fame, I was beyond ecstatic,” said Bucks head coach Doc Rivers.“I struggle with awards, or anything that brings attention to me, but this one is so meaningful. I understand that my success is a byproduct of everyone else’s success around me."

Rivers continued by giving praise to the City of Milwaukee:

"I started out here in Milwaukee going to school at Marquette, and now I’m here in Milwaukee going into the Hall of Fame. The people who played a part in this honor, from Wayne Embry to Hank Raymonds and Rick Majerus, along with my parents, my entire family, my players and coaching staffs, and longtime assistant Annemarie Loflin, makes me very emotional.”

The Milwaukee Bucks also congratulate their head coach on the historic moment:

Rivers is the 1999-00 NBA Coach of the Year and was named one of the 15 Greatest Coaches in NBA history back in 2022.

Doc led the Boston Celtics to an NBA championship in 2008 and has won 114 playoff games in his career, which are the fourth-most all-time.

After beginning his head coaching career with the Orlando Magic from 1999-03, Rivers has since served as head coach of the Celtics from 2004-13, LA Clippers from 2013-20, and the Philadelphia 76ers from 2020-23, prior to coming to Milwaukee during the 2023-24 season.

The 2026 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony is scheduled for Aug. 15, 2026.
