MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Promoting diversity is one of the major goals of the Milwaukee Brotherhood of Firefighters (MBFF). Since 1979, the nonprofit has been
working tirelessly to address the under-representation of minority groups in fire and EMS services.A new way it's doing that is through the sale of diversity t-shirts for both firefighters and the general public.
Monday, Sept. 14, the MBFF unveiled the new t-shirts at "Coffee Makes You Black," located at 2803 N Teutonia Ave., on the city's north side.
It's more than just a fashion statement, it's meant to provide a platform for change.
"We realize how important these t-shirts are, not only for firefighters, but for the communities we work in and people that will see them," said Marcus Smith, Milwaukee firefighter, and t-shirt creator. "When they see these shirts, they not only see a shirt that represents them, but they see a shirt that represents their fire department."
Money raised from the campaign will fund the MBFF and provide scholarships to kids in the inner city.
