Milwaukee Brewers player Brice Turang installs smoke alarms with American Red Cross
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) - Milwaukee Brewers' star and second basemen, Brice Turang, volunteered to help make the community a better place, Tuesday July 21.
Early afternoon on Tuesday, before his 6:40 p.m. game against the New York Mets, Turang teamed up with American Red Cross of Wisconsin for their Sound the Alarm initiative.
The nationwide initiative has volunteers meet with families to discuss fire escape plans and install smoke alarms free of charge.
Turang is a California native and spoke on his experience growing up in a state that has recurring wildfires.
"Even in grade school we practiced it, we practiced getting out of the house or what to do," Turang said. "For the alarms to go off knowing there's a fire without being able to see it or know what's happening, it's important and it saves lives."
Last year, the Red Cross helped over 5,000 people impacted by house fires across of Wisconsin, and in parts of Michigan.
