MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The holiday season is special enough no matter what part of the world it is, but celebrating the festive spirit while living in Wisconsin has certain advantages!

Alisa Sleep, editor of the Milwaukee Mom blog joined us on Monday, Dec. 12 to discuss a fun way to get kids involved in preparing holiday recipes that use Wisconsin cheese.

She provided a couple of easy, festive recipes to enjoy:


Cranberry Breakfast Bowl

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/4 cup BelGioioso Ricotta con Latte® cheese
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup cranberry sauce
  • 2 tablespoons granola
  • 1 tablespoon chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Whisk the yogurt, ricotta and maple syrup in a small bowl. Top with cranberry sauce, granola and pecans.

Holiday Tree Cheeseboard

Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound fresh asparagus spears, trimmed and blanched
  • 6 ounces Marieke® Gouda Plain Young cheese, sliced into wedges
  • 6 ounces Hook's Blue Paradise™ Cheese, crumbled (1 cup)
  • 1 breadstick
  • 1/2 cup seedless red grapes, with stems
  • 6 ounces Hook's Two Year Sharp Cheddar cheese (white), cubed
  • 4 ounces thinly sliced prosciutto (about 6 slices)
  • 1 blood orange, sliced

Instructions

  • Outline tree shape with asparagus spears. Starting at the base of the tree, arrange gouda and blue cheese. Place breadstick horizontally in tree; arrange grapes for ornaments.
  • Place cheddar above breadstick; top with prosciutto layer. Fill in with gouda.
  • Cut orange slices into wedges. Arrange wedges for tree skirt and at top of tree.
