MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- From soul food to spring rolls, a wide variety of businesses are participating in this year's Milwaukee Black Restaurant Week.

"We are more excited than ever to continue and support and give names and faces to some of our favorite restaurants in the city," BlackSpaceMKE Chief Creative Director Symphony Swan-Zawadi said. "We have everything from vegan options to barbeque to baked goods. Your taste buds are going to be on fire all week."

Back for its eighth year, hosted by BlankSpaceMKE, the week showcases just a taste of the many black-owned restaurants in the area.

On the list this year is Delicious Bites in Wauwatosa, a family-owned grab-and-go restaurant that opened its first storefront in February.

"Us, as well as other black-owned businesses, should be highlighted," Delicious Bites Co-Owner Corey White said.

Delicious Bites offers baked goods, salads and sandwiches, and even products from other black-owned businesses.

"It's important for us to support each other. There's definitely enough businesses and money to go around that we can support each other, and everybody can be successful," Delicious Bites Co-Owner Tomira White said.

The restaurant is just one of 17 offering deals this week, hoping to increase its customer base.

"We want them to stay here, and the only way we can do that is by people coming and spending their money with them," Swan-Zawadi said.

Community members are encouraged to eat at the restaurants and check in on social media with #MkeBRW23.

"Every day this week we'll post on our stories and timeline. Our goal is to make sure they come not only this week but that they become lifelong customers of these restaurants," Swan-Zawadi said.

Milwaukee Black Restaurant Week runs from Tuesday to Sunday. There is a kick-off marketplace featuring the participating restaurants on Tuesday at Sherman Pheonix at 3536 West Fond du Lac Ave.
