Milwaukee alderman calls for stricter gun laws after child shoots himself

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee Alderman Robert Puente is calling for harsher punishments for adults who leave guns within the reach of children. This comes days after a three-year-old Milwaukee boy shot himself with a gun he found in the glove compartment of a vehicle.

Alderman Puente says his heart goes out to the family of three-year-old Kevin Donald, who remains in critical condition.

While no criminal charging decision has been made, Alderman Puente points out under current law the mother could be charged with a misdemeanor. He wants to make having an unsecured gun a felony.
