Mequon house fire leaves 2 people dead

MEQUON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Two people died as a result of a house fire in Mequon. 

The fire happened late Tuesday, Jan. 16 on Wauwatosa Road, just north of Mequon Road. 

The Southern Ozaukee Fire  Chief said the fire was noticed by someone driving by who saw flames from the garage. 

When officials arrived to the scene, the residence and garage were fully engulfed in flames. 

Firefighters removed one person from the residence, but despite life-saving measures they did not survive. 

As authorities worked into Wednesday, Jan. 17, crews discovered a second deceased victim inside the residence. The victims were a mother in her 80's, and her son, who's age is unknown. 

Officials do not believe the fire is suspicious. 

An investigation is ongoing.
