Car hits tree near 94th and Wilbur leaving 41-year-old dead, driver in custody

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 41-year-old passenger died after a car crashed into a tree Tuesday, Jan. 13 near 94th and Wilbur, Milwaukee police said.

The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the decedent as Elaine Corbitt of Milwaukee.

The crash happened around 6:50 p.m. when a 60-year-old driver traveling west on W. Wilbur Ave. at excessive speed lost control and struck a tree, according to police.

The passenger died at the scene. The driver is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a hospital and was taken into custody, police said.

Charges are pending review by the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.
