WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- An investigation is underway after a deadly shooting early Friday morning.

What neighbors describe as a typically quiet block of 56th and Greenfield on the border of West Allis and West Milwaukee turned violent around 1:15 a.m. Friday.

"I woke up to the sounds of four gunshots and I heard some yelling along with the gunshots and immediately after that I looked out my bedroom window, I saw a dark colored SUV trying to peel out," witness Amanda Johnson said.

"I heard a male yell. Just one single shout. That's what woke me up and then within a couple seconds I heard a shot and then about a two-second delay and then, and then pop, pop, pop, three more shots," another neighbor Byron Hoaglan said.

Amanda Johnson says investigators told her after the boy was shot he walked across the street near her home.

"Based on his blood pattern he made his way across the street and I think that's where he went down."

From her window, Johnson says she saw the boy take his last breaths.

"I actually said out loud, 'Oh my God, I think someone just got shot outside my house' and it hadn't really processed until I saw them giving CPR," Johnson said.

The early morning violence has neighbors now on edge in a place where they usually feel safe.

"It's scary to see what the neighborhood is becoming," Brandon Kerwin said.

"That's pretty shocking to hear that someone has been shot to death, yes," Robert Horning said.

West Allis Police say they are still searching for the shooting suspect and have not identified the victim yet.
