CBS 58 MENASHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The City of Menasha is pulling the plug on its Flock cameras, as least for now.
The mayor ordered the city's license plate readers bagged by the end of the day Tuesday, Sept. 1, citing growing concerns about privacy and how the data is shared.
Mayor Austin Hammond released a statement, saying in part:
"It is the responsibility of the City to listen to the community and it is clear that the community has expressed their concerns about the use of this tool."
He's recommending the city council cancel Menasha's contract with Flock later this month.
The Menasha Police Department had already added new safeguards this year, including audits and a public transparency log.
