MATC seeking recognition as Hispanic Serving Institution
The announcement was made here at the school's education center. What they're seeking is to expand opportunities to Hispanic Students while also providing resources. In order to be recognized as a Hispanic Serving Institution, the school has to be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education with having at least a 25 percent Hispanic enrollment.
MATC also announced a partnership with Hispanic Professionals of Greater Milwaukee to offer scholarship opportunities for the first two years.
“Being an HSI gives us the opportunity to keep improving and making sure we're doing a better job of making sure students have access and when they get to our institution they have all the resources that they need,” said MATC President Vicki Martin
Several other local leaders attended Wednesday’s announcement in support including Milwaukee Police Chief Alfonso Morales, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, and the Mexican Consulate.
