NOW: Marquette men’s basketball holds open practice

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) - Marquette men's basketball concluded the summer portion of workouts with an open practice at the Al McGuire Center.

Head Coach Shaka Smart said this was the most fans that attended an open practice during his five years with the Golden Eagles.

Those in attendance got to see new members of the freshman class Nigel James Jr., Adrien Stevens, Ian Milectic, and Michael Phillips. The final member of the freshman class Sheek Pearson will arrive during freshman orientation and will redshirt.

Senior Chase Ross dazzled the crowd with three-pointers and high-flying dunks. Fellow senior Ben Gold is on his way to join New Zealand in the FIBA Asia Cup in Saudi Arabia.

One of the other leaders on the team is junior Sean Jones. He returns to the court after tearing his ACL in January of 2024 against Butler.

He missed all of last season trying to get the mental aspect of coming back from injury to be on the same page as his physical on court success. He says it's 'sweet' to be back.

The Golden Eagles will hold another open practice on October 4th ahead of the 2025-26 season.
