Marquette drops conference opener at Creighton

OMAHA - Marquette dealt with a highly emotionally charged Creighton team and fan base in both team's Big East Conference opener Tuesday night. The game marked Creighton's first conference battle as a Big East school, and the Blue Jays rode the emotion to a 67-49 win in Omaha.


Marquette (8-6, 0-1 Big East) got 10 points from Chris Otule and 10 more from Jamil Wilson, most of those coming before halftime. The Golden Eagles scored just 24 in the first half and only 25 points after halftime.


Doug McDermott led Creighton (11-2, 1-0 Big East) with 19 points. Marquette hosts DePaul Saturday.
