Many Brewers fans will travel to Tampa Bay for cheaper World Series experience
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — A lot of Brewers fans will be travelling from Milwaukee to Tampa next week to catch a World Series game.
Fans told CBS 58 that's because they're saving money, even with the cost of plane tickets and lodging included.
"They were way cheaper. I bought mine for $430," said Liz Heinz, who will be traveling to Game 3. "I feel like that top section of Tropicana is going to be all Brewers fans."
She spent about the same on round-trip plane tickets from O'Hare to Tampa and found a reasonable hotel that's walking distance from Tropicana Field.
"It's a once-in-a-lifetime chance, I've waited my entire lifetime to do this," said Todd Farnham, a diehard Brewers fan who will see them play in Game 3, Game 4, and if necessary, Game 5 in Tampa Bay.
He told CBS 58 Game 3 and Game 4 cost him around $500 per ticket. Game 5 was a bit more expensive - closer to $800 - but that still doesn't compare to prices for games at American Family Field.
Tickets to all the Brewers home games for the World Series are sold out, and the cheapest resale tickets for standing-room-only are nearly $3,000.
As of Tuesday, some standing-room-only and top-level seats are still available for Game 3-5 at Tropicana Field for less than $1,000 per ticket.
"Absolutely, 100% it's the cheaper option, as long as you don't mind driving to O'Hare, because obviously all the flights out of Milwaukee are booked up," said Farnham.
Since Tampa Bay's ALCS win, flights are selling out from both Milwaukee and Chicago to Tampa, and prices are spiking for the plane tickets that are available.
"My ticket was $450 from Chicago to Tampa on Sunday night. Now this morning I looked, it's $2,100 for the same ticket," said Heinz.
For some fans, the experience will be priceless.
"I want to be there to actually see them and celebrate with them and get the goosebumps," Farnham said.
