Manitowoc man arrested for using ax, electric grinder in domestic assault

MANITOWOC, Wis. (WFRV) -- A man is in custody after the Manitowoc Police Department was dispatched to a residence on the south side of the city on Thursday around 12:42 a.m. for a report of a woman who had been assaulted. Police say the woman was reportedly strangled, punched and cut with an ax.

Officers say when they arrived on the scene, the woman said that suspect was her boyfriend who she lives with. She said she had been held against her will in a nearby garage, and her boyfriend held an ax to her neck. Police say while vocally threatening her, he cut her and caused a non-life threatening laceration to her neck.

Police report that the boyfriend then proceeded to use an electric grinder on the victim, which resulted in cuts to the victim's ankle. The victim had also been strangled and punched by the boyfriend during the incident.

Police say the suspect was a 48-year-old Manitowoc man who was located on the property and taken into custody after a brief struggle where an electric control device and pepper spray had been used.

The man was held at the Manitowoc County Jail on charges of false imprisonment, recklessly endangering safety with a dangerous weapon, strangulation, disorderly conduct, resisting an officer, felony bail jumping and a probation hold.

The victim, a 48-year-old Manitowoc woman, suffered non-life threatening injuries.
