Man who shot beloved chef 11 times at Loaded Slate sentenced to life in prison

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- On Friday 25-year-old Andrew Terry was sentenced to life in prison with a possibility for parole in 45 years for the death of 30-year-old Shannon Freeman last April.

On April 11, 2022, Freeman and Terry exchanged some words at the now closed Loaded Slate Bar before Freeman was shot 11 times according to a police report.

Freeman was a beloved father to a little girl and head chef of City Light Brewing Company. His family and friends were present in court Friday afternoon.

"There are a lot of situations out here where you know the killer is never found so with that being said we are glad you know that he is convicted," said Kewhan Freeman, brother of Shannon Freeman.

Kewhan, along with Freeman's mother and father, gave impact statements.

Terry gave a statement apologizing to Freeman's family, but he maintains that his actions were a result of self-defense. Judge Mark Sanders did not buy it.

"I reject entirely this had anything to do with self-defense," said Judge Sanders.

Ultimately the judge sentenced Terry to life in prison with the possibility of parole in 45 years.

Freeman's family said they hope others learn from this tragedy and put down the guns.
