Man rents Smurfs from Red Box but gets porn

CALIFORNIA -- A California man rented a copy of Smurfs 2, but what was really on the DVD was far from family friendly. Officials at Red Box say it's a problem they're working to counteract.

James Terry was on his boat when he popped in a Smurfs 2 Red Box DVD into his DVD player. What he saw was not Smurfs, but was pornography. Terry says he saw bikini girls at first, but the video eventually displayed hardcore pornography.

Terry says he rented the DVD from a Red Box kiosk at his local Walmart. Everything on the DVD looked real, even the bar codes near the center of the discs. Terry says a Red Box manager told him this is an ongoing problem. Terry was offered a two dollar credit and ten free movie rentals.

According to Terry, Red Box management told him they're working on a way to stop people from copying their bar codes. Red Box released a statement which says:

\"This is an unfortunate incident caused by an individual with ill intent. We are preparing a case to provide to local law enforcement and will work with them to aggressively pursue prosecution.\"

Terry believes the DVDs should come with a warning label so parents don't put in the DVD and leave their children.
