Man killed in Kenosha single vehicle accident identified

KENOSHA -- The Kenosha County Sheriff's Department has identified the man killed in a single vehicle accident as 25-year-old John Punak.

The Kenosha County Sheriff's Department says Punak was driving on the off-ramp at a high rate of speed, and slammed into a pole. The engine was separated from the car. A source with the Kenosha Police Department says this was the worst accident he's seen in 19 years.

Witnesses say Punak appeared to be distressed prior to the crash. The Kenosha County Sheriff's Department says the roads were clear and dry, no other vehicles were involved, and there were no skid marks indicating the driver never tried to stop.

The Kenosha County Sheriff's Department believes this is a tragic accident, but will still conduct a thorough investigation. Toxicology tests will be performed as is customary in traffic fatalities.
