41-year-old man dead after shooting in Cudahy near Packard and Birchwood, person of interest in custody

CUDAHY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The victim of Sunday's deadly shooting in Cudahy has been identified as 41-year-old Eric Robert Maddox of South Milwaukee.

CUDAHY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner says they were called out to Cudahy for a deadly shooting on Saturday, Feb. 24 near Packard and Birchwood at around 5:50 p.m.

Police say that the victim was a 41-year-old man from South Milwaukee. He was pronounced dead at the scene after lifesaving measures were performed.

The suspect fled the vehicle and has not been located, according to the Cudahy Police Department, preliminary indication indicates the vehicle may have been a black SUV.

The preliminary investigation reportedly indicates that the victim was driving southbound on Packard and was engaged in a conflict with another driver. The conflict escalated when witnesses say the vehicles stopped and the victim got out of their car to confront the suspect.

It is not clear if the suspect and victim knew each other.

According to the Cudahy Police Department, a 32-year-old person of interest was taken into custody. Police obtained a search warrant for the person of interest's vehicle and home in Greenfield. The man was taken into custody without incident. Police say no one else is being sought in connection with the incident.
