Man cited for 7th OWI after hitting fire hydrant in Burlington

During Sunday's snow event, a man was cited for his 7th operating while intoxicated offense (OWI) after hitting a fire hydrant in Burlington.

Racine County Sheriff's deputies responded to a car crash where the vehicle left the roadway and struck a fire hydrant in the area of S. Pine St. and Liberty St. in Burlington. The call came in at 6:20 p.m. which was during a Winter Storm Warning and the roads were snow-covered.

When deputies located the vehicle involved in the crash and spoke to the driver, they suspected he was under the influence of alcohol. The driver, John Weber, a 59-year-old resident of the Town of Burlington, refused to submit to an alcohol breath test, but admitted to drinking.

Weber was arrested for OWI and records showed that he had a lengthy record of past OWI offenses. If he is convicted for this offense, it will be his 7th OWI offense.

Weber will be transported to the Racine County Jail and held on a criminal charge of OWI-7th Offense, which is a felony. He will be held with a cash bond of $12,500. He was also cited with driving with no insurance and driving too fast for conditions.
