MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Franksville man is now charged with second-degree homicide after leading a Sheriff's deputy on a deadly chase.
Robert Matagi, 18, is accused of taking off from a deputy and crashing into a driver at 13th and Morgan. Pedro Colon-Ortiz, 25, died at the scene.
In addition to second-degree homicide, Matagi is also charged with hit-and-run resulting in death and vehicle operator flee/elude officer resulting in the death of another.
According to the complaint, Matagi wrote an apology letter saying, "I had a gun and some marijuana in the car with no license and I was scared to go to jail and be stranded in Milwaukee, so I sped up."
It's believed Matagi reached speeds of 80 or 90 miles an hour at the time of the crash, in an area where the posted speed limit is 30 mph.
The deputy involved in the chase remains on administrative duty.
