Milwaukee County Jail, family MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 23-year-old Milwaukee man has been charged in connection to a 2022 murder.
Twenty-four-year-old Daneysha Valez was shot and killed near 17th and Wright streets on July 21, 2022. Authorities say she suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
According to a criminal complaint, surveillance video from a nearby home captured the shooting. The video reportedly shows Valez arrived in a Chrysler Sebring, and she parked behind a black Mercedes. Valez, according to the complaint, got out of her vehicle and spoke to a person in the back seat of the Mercedes. That's when, officials say, a white pickup truck passed by and shot Valez multiple times.
Authorities reviewed more surveillance video that reportedly showed more detail about the white pickup truck involved. Detectives were notified by the Mequon Police Department a similar vehicle was stolen out of Mequon on July 21, the same day as the shooting.
The truck was located in an alleyway days later, and officials were able to recover a fingerprint that matched 23-year-old Jhony Marchena of Milwaukee.
According to the complaint, the truck is equipped with cellular tower connectivity, and the data showed the vehicle was in the area of the homicide at the time it occurred.
On Sept. 9, 2021, police arrested Marchena at an apartment on Port Washington Avenue.
Marchena has been charged with the following:
- First-degree intentional homicide, as party to a crime
- Bail jumping
In court on Thursday, Feb. 5, a judge set Marchena's bond at $300,000. He's due back in court for a preliminary hearing on Feb. 16.
