Man arrested for fifth OWI admits to EMS he drank a liter of vodka before rollover crash

WAUKESHA COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) – A man is arrested for his fifth offense OWI after the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department says he flipped his vehicle in the Village of Summit.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, witnesses told deputies the man was speeding when he failed to negotiate a curve on the ramp to I-94 from Hwy 67. The driver then went into a steep ditch, hit a guardrail and a traffic sign, flipped the vehicle and slid about 30 feet before stopping on its side ont eh eastbound off ramp to Hwy 67.

The Western Lakes Fire District EMS had to extricate the driver from the car and he was taken to the hospital for treatment. According to the Sheriff’s Department, the driver admitted to EMS that he had drank a liter of vodka that day.

Deputies noticed the man had glassy, bloodshot eyes, and slurred speech and could smell a strong odor of intoxicants from the driver. The driver refused a blood test and a warrant was obtained for a blood draw.

After an investigation, the driver was arrested for his fifth offense OWI. He was also given citations for reckless driving/endangering safety. The operating after revocation and ignition interlock device tampering/failure to install. The driver was also referred for one charge of misdemeanor bail jumping and found to be in violation of his bail conditions.
