MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A man accused of killing his friend says he was under the influence of drugs at the time.
Byron Artis, 47, is charged with reckless homicide for the shooting at a gas station at 27th and Lisbon on February 1.
In the criminal complaint, Artis told police he and the victim, Ruquinn McCullar, were lifelong friends and they had both used cocaine on February 1.
They stopped at the gas station for cigarettes and Artis said he was "wigging out" in the car from the drug. Artis told police when he "wigs out" he gets paranoid.
Artis says he shot McCullar as he returned to the car because he mistook his friend for someone who was going to rob him.
Artis is due in court February 13.
