Man accidentally shoots buyer who was interested in purchasing handgun

Washington County Sheriff Deputies responded to the 400 block of Main Street in the Village of Newburg shortly after 1:00 AM Sunday after a man was shot.

The 35-year-old male victim was being shown a handgun by a 36-year-old man who was trying to sell it.

The handgun had not been completely cleared of ammunition and it discharged striking the victim in the arm.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said the incident appears to be accidental, but the 36-year-old seller was believed to be intoxicated.

He was taken into custody for intoxicated use of a firearm.

The victim was taken to Froedtert Hospital and treated and released for his injuries.
