Madison Police: 3 young teenagers chased, arrested after running from stolen car

MADISON, Wis. -- (WISC) Three teenagers were chased and arrested Friday afternoon after they ran from a stolen car, Madison police said.

West District police officers chased and apprehended the teens just before 4 p.m. in Greenway Trail at Carnwood Road, according to a release.

The car was taken from Allied Drive the day before, after its owner left it unlocked and running while letting it warm up, police said.

An officer spotted the car on Prairie Avenue and tried to stop it, but the driver sped off and the officer didn’t pursue the car, according to the release. When a second officer saw the car minutes later, the suspects were dumping it on Greenway Trail.

Police said five or six teenagers took off running, and police were able to apprehend three of them.

A 12-year-old, a 13-year-old and a 16-year-old were arrested on tentative charges of operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent and resisting or obstructing. The 16-year-old was also arrested on a tentative charge of carrying a concealed weapon.
