MACC Fund receives largest donation ever from Bucks guard Wesley Matthews

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Bucks guard Wesley Matthews is helping to fight childhood cancer with a historic donation.

The Madison native and Marquette University alum made the largest donation ever from an athlete to the MACC Fund

Matthews says his donation hit home because the organization is about children and family -- things that are important to the father of a 3-year-old girl. He spoke about the experiences he's had meeting kids and families in children's hospitals.

"Being able to be a bright spot in their day was a humbling, a ridiculously humbling experience and it was sad, it was uplifting, but it was also motivating because you could see these kids who are going through this and they have so much hope still and they have innocence still and they have so much excitement still and you were able to bring that upon their face," Matthews said.

The specific dollar amount that Matthews donated is not being shared, but Matthews says he's competitive and wanted to donate the highest amount. We do know it's in the six figures.

Both Matthews and the MACC Fund hope to inspire others to match or beat the donation.
