Local Red Cross Worker from Philippines Speaks of Typhoon

(Milwaukee)--The story of the typhoon really hits home for one Milwaukeean. Jedd Lapid is originally from Manilla, hundreds of miles away from where the typhoon directly hit, but close enough to his heart.

This local Red Cross worker has been in the states more than 20 years. But he knows first hand how bad it can get in the Philippines. He was in an earthquake there in the late 80's.

This time around, he was playing with his 10-month old when he got news of what happened in his homeland just about a week ago. He speaks on behalf of his country by saying how grateful every Filipino is on the outpouring of support coming around the world. And from this experience, as bad as it is, he adds it's a lesson for all of us. He says when we're better prepared, we can better handle what's coming our way.

Lapid also says he's planning a trip to go to Manilla sometime next year.
