Local rally planned at Red Arrow Park

Milwaukee - Organizers with the African American Civic Round Table say they expect nearly 400 people to gather at Red Arrow Park Friday afternoon, where they will march to the Milwaukee County Safety Building. The tension in Missouri has lead local activists and organizers to form Friday's rally at Red Arrow Park. That's the same location where a Milwaukee Police Officer shot and killed 31-year-old Dontre Hamilton in April during a scuffle.

\"Did that play a role in picking Red Arrow Park? Absolutely. It played a significant role.\" Says, Mike Wilder, Chairman of African American Civic Round Table.

The officer's name in Hamilton's shooting has not been officially released. The Milwaukee County District Attorney's office has not made a decision yet in pursuing the case, and a lot of details still remain unanswered on what happened in the incident.

\"Folks see a lot of similarities that are going on in Missouri that are going on here.\" Says, Wilder.

Wilder says the goal for Friday's rally is to bridge the gap that's kept local police departments and communities divided.

A spokesperson for the Milwaukee Police Department says, \"The Milwaukee Police Department has shown its ability and commitment to protect the rights of those who wish to engage in public demonstrations.\"

The rally at Red Arrow Park is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
