Local Memorial Day events planned to honor fallen soldiers

MILWAUKEE -- Memorial Day is a time to honor and remember men and women who have died while serving in the military.

There will be many symbols and colors of patriotism spread throughout the area today -- from ceremonial tributes and wreath laying ceremonies to flags flowing freely in the wind.

Governor Scott Walker will mark the occasion at Wood Cemetery in Milwaukee Memorial Day morning before going to Madison in the afternoon.

The 149th Memorial Day Parade starts in Milwaukee at 2 p.m. on 4th & Wisconsin Ave. The route heads east to the War Memorial.

This year's event honors all Vietnam Veterans and features color guards, bands, military vehicles and much more in a true salute to those who have given the ultimate sacrifice.
