WAUKESHA COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Across the country, newly formed families are celebrating the upcoming National Adoption Day.
One event in our hometowns was at the Waukesha County Court Circuit, where organizers raised awareness of the 13,000 children in foster care waiting to be adopted in Wisconsin.
They also celebrated a big milestone for a pair of families.
The banging of the gavel making it official, a touching moment for the children and their parents.
A 5-year-old girl has been living with her foster parents for more than two and a half years.
They say she's been long considered a part of the family, today, they just put a stamp on it.
"Everyone really turned out for this it's been really awesome to see." "It makes it really meaningful for us because our daughter is old enough to remember stuff like this and we like the opportunity to advocate for foster care and adoption," said Jennifer and Kevin Poston, who finalized the adoption today.
World Adoption Day is Saturday, Nov. 9. National Adoption Day is Nov. 23.
With the government offices not open, many communities are recognizing the day a little early.
