MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Local author Lisa Proeber wrote a new board book called "Mama Cow" that introduces children ages 1 to 5 to the idea that some families need help to grow. The book highlights surrogacy, sperm donation and other assisted reproduction methods, focusing on how love creates families.
Proeber, a solo mom by choice and former surrogate, joined us on Tuesday, Sept. 9.
She said the story behind "Mama Cow" began with her own path to parenthood, which did not follow a traditional route. While looking for age-appropriate resources to explain her story, she found few children’s books available.
Her book uses rhyme and animal characters to explain family-building in a simple way. Proeber said she hopes it helps parents discuss their journeys openly with young children.
