Local AME church prays for Charleston

Last week's deadly church shooting in Charleston still resonates with many across the country. But it doesn't seem to be having a long-lasting, negative impact, at least for those who go to St. Mark African Methodist Church on Milwaukee's north side.

This is the same type of congregation as the one in South Carolina where nine people were gunned down this past Wednesday evening. Those we spoke with on Sunday say they don't judge the shooter, and they don't fear going to church either. They say they feel safe here. Meantime, Reverend Darryl Williams, the pastor at St. Mark, says parishioners should pray for the souls lost and for healing as a community.

On Monday starting at 5pm, there will be a prayer vigil and a group discussion at St. Mark AME concerning the Charleston shootings. The public is welcome. The address is 1616 W. Atkinson Avenue. The number is 414-562-8030. The website is www.stmarkame-milwaukee.com
