Lincoln Memorial Drive, Hoan Bridge to Close for Fireworks

The Sherrif's office will be closing Lincoln Memorial Drive and the Hoan Bridge in stages today for safety of crowds for the lakefront fireworks display. Due to the bus transit strike, parking lots are expected to fill up faster than usual. In the past lots have filled as early as 6 PM. Once parking lots are full, Lincoln Memorial Drive will be closed.

Northbound traffic on the Hoan Bridge to westbound I-794 will be open at first but the Lincoln Memorial Drive exit will stay closed.

Between 7:00 and 8:00 pm the Hoan Bridge will be closed in both directions. The James Lovell Street exit will be open only to shuttle bus traffic until the conclusion of the fireworks. Fireworks begin at 9:30 PM.

The Sheriff's office is telling drivers to heed the following tips for a safe experience:

- Allow more time to get to the lakefront 
- Arrive earlier in the day to obtain parking
- Have a backup parking plan (use nearby city street parking and walk to the lakefront)
- Carpool with others instead of driving separately
