MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A special nightclub in Milwaukee turned 40 on Wednesday, March 6.
A celebration was held this evening to honor LaCage Niteclub, when it opened in Walkers Point to the LGBTQ+ community.
"We're not just a community of LGBTQ+ people but also straight advocates that came here and enjoy spending their time, we enjoy our performances, our drag shows, and the other events that we do," said David Wolz, owner of LaCage.
LaCage opened back in 1984 and was the first Milwaukee gay bar to open with wide windows to the street. This got rid of the status quo that gay bars had to be hidden from the world with windows that were boarded up.
They celebrated with drink specials and special performances.
