MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A new partnership in Milwaukee aims to improve access to healthy foods in disadvantaged neighborhoods.
The Muslim Community and Health Center is one of six new inner city programs to get funding from Kohl's Healthy Families.
The initiative officially kicked off Tuesday, Sept. 8, with a food pantry and healthy cooking demonstrations near Teutonia and Eggert Place.
Organizers say they're getting a lot of support from the community.
"The reaction has been great," said Community Resource Navigator Yameen Muhammad. "It's always been 'God bless you, thank you,' we need something like 'keep up the good work,' so it's always been words of encouragement since I got here."
Five other organizations throughout the Milwaukee area are also set to receive grants from Kohl's, including:
- Cross Lutheran Church
- Milwaukee Area Technical College Foundation
- Riverwest Food Pantry
- Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers
- University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, College of Nursing
