Kenosha officer shoots dog after it attacks multiple people, firefighters

KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Kenosha police officer shot and killed a dog Saturday, Jan. 3 after it escaped from a home and attacked multiple people, including firefighters, according to the Kenosha Police Department.

Officers and firefighters responded around 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3 to the 61st and 18th area for a report of a dog bite involving a 36-year-old woman. While officers, fire responders and family members were gathered outside the home, the dog escaped and attacked multiple people, police said.

An officer shot the dog as it was actively and aggressively attacking and biting people. Multiple people were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

The Kenosha Racine Area Investigative Team is reviewing incident, with the Racine County Sheriff's Office serving as the lead agency. An internal investigation by the Kenosha Police Department will follow.

The officer involved has four years of law enforcement experience with the department.
