John Cusack to host screening of cult classic 'Say Anything' at The Riverside Theater

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Acclaimed actor John Cusack is set to appear at The Riverside Theater for a special event: a screening of the beloved 1989 film, "Say Anything," complete with a live conversation about his lengthy career.

Will he bring a boombox and blast Peter Gabriel, as he did in the film's iconic romantic scene? That is doubtful, but the audience will have a chance to engage in a Q&A with Cusack, offering insight into the making of the film that helped establish him as a Hollywood star.

The showing will take place on Saturday, Nov. 11, with doors opening at 7 p.m. and the show beginning at 8 p.m.

"Say Anything" saw Cusack embody the character of Lloyd Dobler, an eternal optimist courting Diane Court, played by Ione Skye. Upon its release, renowned critic Roger Ebert hailed the film as "one of the best of the year."

As a further testament to the film's enduring appeal, Entertainment Weekly listed "Say Anything" as one of the greatest modern movie romances and named it #11 in their roundup of the 50 best high-school movies.

Cusack's work in "Say Anything" also won him the Most Promising Actor award from the 1989 Chicago Film Critics Association.

The film's success was instrumental in paving the way for his acting career, boasting varied roles in acclaimed films such as "High Fidelity," "Grosse Pointe Blank" and "Being John Malkovich."

Tickets go on sale Friday, June 9 at 10 a.m. on the Pabst Theater Group website.
