Jingle Bells in July: Salvation Army kicks off new donation efforts at Pick 'n Save's across Milwaukee County

 

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- It's the first day of season's greetings at Pick 'n Save's across Milwaukee County, as the Salvation Army kicks off their newest donation efforts.

From July 1 to July 11, bell ringers will be stationed outside of the grocery stores, collecting money for local programs.

“Our Feed the Kids summer meals program, our Coats for Kids coats program, Christmas Family Feast for Christmas Day, our emergency lodge homeless shelter," said Amy Hand, the media relations director for the Salvation Army. “If you’re out shopping at Pick 'n Save, come by and drop a dollar in the kettle.”

According to Hand, 87 cents from every dollar will stay in Milwaukee County.

This is the first time the organization has held what they've dubbed "Christmas in July" in the area.

“There is a need all year round and our goal was to just promote loving beyond December," said Johnnetria Gardner, a red kettle coordinator with the Salvation Army of Milwaukee County. “We help however we can.”

Gardner said they don't have a specific monetary goal as any bit helps.

“Let’s just do whatever that we can at the halfway point, hence Christmas in July, to further those efforts along," Gardner said. "It does the heart good when you see people who recognize and want to help all year long.” 

The 10-day fundraiser will culminate at the Milwaukee Milkmen's baseball game on July 11 when the Salvation Army hosts a Christmas-themed "Salvation Army Night."

"There will be photos with Santa, activities for kids, festive Christmas decorations and Christmas-themed treats," a news release said.

• Market Square PNS, 6760 W National Ave. (West Allis)
