Janesville man punches two men for speaking Spanish

MADISON -- A 23-year-old Janesville man was arrested for two counts of battery with a hate crime enhancer after punching two men for speaking what he thought was Spanish.
Madison police say the 23-year-old man walked by the two men as they were speaking Hebrew, and demanded they speak in English. Eventually the 23-year-old man hit both men in the face. One man was knocked to the ground and the other man was left with an eye nearly swollen shut.
The 23-year-old man denied hitting the two victims, but did admit to telling them to speak English. He told police he thought the two men were speaking Spanish.
Witnesses tell police the 23-year-old man did hit the two victims.
