MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — On Sunday, all things icky, sticky, wiggly, and crawly returned to Discovery World today for the third annual Gross Out Day.

"I've never eaten a bug before," said Sadie McAninch, attendee.

At Discovery World, hundreds of people escaped from the cold to experience the wild and wacky. Sadie McAninch and her dad say the highlight was eating a sweet treat, with a crunchy twist.

"Apparently I tried a chocolate chip cookie that apparently had crickets in it," said McAninch.

It was her first time ever eating a bug; she says it took some convicting before she could take that first bite.

"At first I was terrified, but it was actually pretty good. I'm learning that bugs aren't that strange. Its just the country that we live in we don't eat a lot of bugs so its a little weird like if someone never tried meat before like I'm going to eat an animal but I actually do it all the time so you just need to get used to it," said McAninch.

Owner of All Things Jerky in Appleton, Jessica Jerky, says she started educating people about bugs 15 years ago at the Wisconsin State Fair.

"It has evolved over the years to what can I make with bugs and what can people try," said Jerky.

Jerky offers everything from scorpion lollipops, alligator and kangaroo jerky to a fan favorite, cricket chocolate chip cookies.

"They don't taste gross, they're nutty like a sunflower seed, they have the crunch of popcorn so there's really nothing to be scared of. They are delicious actually," said Jerky.

Sadie says the event has helped her overcame her fear of the creepy crawlys.

"Next time a bug crawls on me or I see a spider I probably wont be as scared because I know people eat spiders," said McAninch.
