"It's so hot:" Milwaukee Health Department urges people to stay cool
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – The City of Milwaukee Health Department urges people to stay cool and hydrated during hot weather.
The first signs of heat exposure include heavy sweating, paleness, muscle cramps, tiredness, nausea, and weakness.
There are a number of cooling centers in the city and county people can turn to.
“Think about public spaces, think about public libraries, malls, movie theaters,” said Nick Tomaro, Public Health Preparedness Coordinator.
At the Milwaukee Public Library – East Branch, people stopped by to read but also to get out of the heat.
“We are all air-conditioned all, all available for anyone to come in and cool off and we have tons of free activities,” Petra Duecker, works at the Milwaukee Public Library.
One of the free activities young people were taking part in was Game Jam. It gives teens the opportunity to code their own video game.
“I actually wanted to make my own video games,” said Christian.
On this hot summer day, everyone was just happy to be inside.
“You will regret it if you stay outside too long,” said Christian.
